Winter Dressing

As the snow continues to fall, here is a reminder about winter dressing from Fiona and the rest of the Pearson Community Cop-op Nursery School team - let's all hope for warmer temperatures soon! And until then...

Winter Dressing:

As most nursery school teachers or ECEs would agree, once the winter weather hits we are excited for the prospect of playing in the snow...but dreading the task of getting preschoolers dressed in full winter gear!!

At Pearson, we encourage as much independence as possible and start with asking that all parents label their child’s clothes with labels so we can tell whose are whose. Jackets come in many different colours, but snow pants tend to be similar colours. It makes it so much easier when things are labelled, and also helps the children to recognize their own name. Our cubby area can become a sea of winter gear, so we divide the group into two smaller groups and get dressed with snow pants and jackets in the 2 classrooms. Armed with their jacket and snow pants, two items of clothing often seems less overwhelming to a 3 year old. You would be amazed at how many children can get themselves well on the way to putting on snow pants with minimal help. At Pearson, we do the jacket flip, which begins with lying the jacket on the floor. We teach them toes by the tag, hands in and flip. Magic!!

After these are put on then off to the cubbies we go to get on the rest of their winter clothes.

The kids get dressed in this order:

Thanks, and have a great weekend!
