Book of the Week: Pete the Cat

Pete the Cat goes walking down the street wearing his brand new white shoes. As he walks, his shoes change from white to red to blue to brown as he steps in piles of strawberries, blueberries and other big messes.

But Pete keeps on moving and grooving and singing his song.

Author Eric Litwin and illustrator James Dean self-published Pete the Cat in 2008 before it was reissued by Harper Collins. Since then, the book has exploded, and several follow-up adventures of the mellow cat have been published.

Check out Harper Collins' extensive website for all things Pete the Cat.

Books of the Week: Munsch, Munsch, Munsch!

It's Munsch Month in the classroom this week as we read not one, not two, but three Books of the Week!

The Paper Bag Princess
Princess Elizabeth is slated to marry Prince Ronald when a dragon attacks the castle and kidnaps Ronald. In resourceful and humorous fashion, Elizabeth finds the dragon, outsmarts him, and rescues Ronald—who is less than pleased at her un-princess-like appearance.

Mud Puddle
Whenever Jule Ann goes outside, a mud puddle jumps on her and gets her muddy all over. But she defeats it with cheerful ingenuity and two bars of smelly yellow soap.

Makeup Mess
Julie loves makeup so much, it's scary! After saving up all her money, she sets off to the drugstore to stock up on yellow eyeshadows, black lipsticks, green blush, and much more. She thinks she looks beautiful, but her parents don't feel the same way.

Be sure to visit Robert Munsch's website for more on this beloved children's author.
