Book of the Week: Ten Red Apples

“Ten red apples hanging on a tree. Yippee, fiddle-dee-fee!”

This week, the students will enjoy joining in the rhyme as they count apples in Ten Red Apples, by Pat Hutchins.

If your child was a part of last week's field trip to Frootogo Orchards and farm, he or she might make some interesting connections—the apples and animals in the book are much like what they saw last week!

Re-live the book at home with this YouTube video:

Book of the Week: The Farmyard Jamboree

Thanksgiving is over and everybody is full from dinner, home from their travels, and tucked tight in their own beds.

This week, we’re heading back to the farm with our Book of the Week. And just like last week, we’re going to sing and dance our way there!

The Farmyard Jamboree, written by Margaret Read MacDonald and charmingly illustrated by Sophie Fatus, encourages children to bark, moo and quack as they are introduced to the farmyard animals and their babies.

Check out the singalong video, with music from Bob King:

This Week at Pearson: Dress Like A Farmer

Harvest the crops at the first light of day, milk the cows and bale the hay,
Ride your tractors, plough the fields, feed the pigs and see what them chickens did lay,
Get a baaa, a mooo, an oink and a neigh,
This week is dress like a farmer day!

Children are invited to dress like a farmer on Wednesday and Thursday this week. Grab those straw hats, handkerchiefs, overalls and boots and mosey on down to class to say howdy ho. It's gonna be a hoedown, showdown, hog-tootin' throwdown kind of a day.
Yeehaw!
(Fingers crossed there's no waking with the roosters at the crack of dawn!)

*** Reminder: Permission forms for the Frootogo field trip are due Thursday October 9th / Friday October 10th ***

Book of the Week: A Farmer’s Life for Me

“One, two, three, it’s a farmer’s life for me!”

Do your little ones ever wonder where eggs come from? This week, we're taking them on a trip to the farm with our Book of the Week.

Written by Jan Dobbins and colourfully illustrated by Laura Huliska-Beith, A Farmer’s Life for Me tells the story of a group of friends who spend a day working and playing on the farm.

Watch the singalong video, featuring music by the Flannery Brothers, with your child, and bring this week’s book to life!
