Based on an old folk tale, The Mitten is the story of a boy who drops his white mitten in the snow. Though he has lost it, it becomes home to a mole, a rabbit, a badger, a mouse, and even...a bear? Of course! This sweet story has a funny climax that your kids will love.
This Wednesday and Thursday are BEACH DAY at Pearson Community Co-op Nursery School. Let's take a break from the snow and enjoy some (indoor) beach fun!
Have a great week, everyone, and stay warm...

Sadie and the Snowman
How many of our Pearson parents are 80s kids? If so, you may remember Sadie and the Snowman, which came out in 1987 and was likely bedtime reading for a lot of us...and now, for our kids!
This very sweet book is about a girl named Sadie who builds and rebuilds her snowman friend, who can't help but melt away. Sadie is sad and doesn't want to lose her friend forever - so she saves a little piece of him for next year.
It's supposed to be a cold week - please remember hats, mittens and snowpants for outside play!
Did you see our post below about registration? Please remember to mark down the dates if your child is returning to Pearson next year - and, please share with your friends! We'd love your referrals to the school.
Have a great week, everyone, and check back soon.
Come Join Us at Pearson!
Are you thinking about enrolling your child at Pearson Community Co-op Nursery School this fall? Here are some FAQs to guide guide you through the registration process. If you have any questions, please contact the school. Thanks, and see you in September!
What is the
difference between a duty and non-duty spot?
Duty parents are parents who help out in the classroom on a
rotating schedule. For a 2 day per week
program, you can expect to be scheduled approximately 2 times per month, for a
3 day per week program you can expect to be scheduled approximately 3 times per
month. Non-duty parents do not help out
in the classroom (however you are always welcome to stay if you would like!). All parents (duty and non-duty) are placed on
a committee.
When is registration
taking place?
Advanced registration happens February 19th, at
6pm. In order to attend the advanced
registration, you need to be a current member of the school or an associate
member. The general public registration and
open house is happening on March 1st, from 9am to 11:30am.
How do I become an
associate member?
To become an associate member, you need to purchase an
associate membership from the school at a cost of $35. The associate membership allows you to attend
the advanced registration.
What is the advantage
in being an associate member?
This is a good option for people who are looking for a high
demand spot in the preschool, such as a non-duty spot or a spot in the RTL
program (ready-to-learn program which runs Mon/Wed/Fri afternoons from 1pm to
3:25pm). An associate membership does
not guarantee you a spot in the program of your choice however. There are a limited number of associate
memberships sold each year.
What forms do I need
to register?
In order to register, you need to bring your completed
membership application form, your committee selection form, and a registration
fee (in the form of cheque or cash) in the amount of $35. Once you have registered, you will receive
the registration package which needs to be completed and returned to the school
prior to June 1st.

Snow, snow, and more snow!
Welcome back to school, Pearson families! We hope you all had a wonderful holiday break with friends and family, and are getting back into your usual routines now that school is back in session.
This week and last week's book themes have been snow - something that proved to be VERY appropriate with the weather we have been facing over the past few weeks. While we all struggle to scrape the ice off of our cars and shovel the driveway AGAIN, our kids look at the snow and ice outside their windows and see FUN. Fortunately, the teaching team at Pearson Community Co-op Nursery School has found a way to bring the snow indoors, using it as part of sensory activities in the classroom. Awesome!
This week's book is called 'Snowmen at Night' and is popular among children and parents alike. While we are all sleeping, what are the snowmen doing? Playing, of course! This whimsical tale will spark your child's imagination and maybe inspire a few snow creations in your backyard.
All the best for a great week - stay warm, and check back soon!

Santa's Noisy Night
Well, Pearson families, we are officially into the 10 Day Countdown to Christmas, and to keep things festive at Pearson Community Co-op Nursery School, we are reading "Santa's Noisy Night" in class this week. Were your children happy to meet Santa when he visited the school last week? There were a lot of laughs and smiling faces!
There are only a few days of preschool left before the holidays. Please drive carefully in the snow, and remember to pack weather appropriate clothing for your child. It's definitely snowpants and boots weather now!
Ho Ho Ho...check back soon!

A busy, jolly week at Pearson!
Sometimes, even Santa has a bad day. This is the plotline of, "Are You Grumpy, Santa?" by Gregg and Evan Spiridellis. Santa wakes up on the wrong side of the bed, and things get progressively worse as he stubs his toe, gets chased by a dog, slips on a noodle, and more. Fortunately, he ends up at a home where he is able to rediscover the gift of love, and remember the spirit of the Christmas season. We hope your children enjoy our book of the week at Pearson Community Co-op Nursery School - it's a holiday favourite!
There are some important (and festive) things to remember this week. Our Santa Store will be open early this week, and The Big Man in Red will be making an appearance at the school on Wednesday and Thursday. Please remember that Santa visit days are also red and green days. And finally, please let the teachers know if you anticipate your child having a nervous or upset reaction to seeing Santa in person - you are welcome to stay and sit with them if it would make things easier. We want this to be a fun, positive experience for every child.
Best wishes to all for a fantastic week! Ho Ho Ho...check back soon.

You Can't Catch Me...
Have your kids been telling you all about a cheeky little fellow called The Gingerbread Man?
This week at Pearson Community Co-op Nursery school, our children are reading the classic holiday fairytale The Gingerbread Man, and participating in related crafts and activities. They have been getting ready for the holidays by decorating mini gingerbread houses and singing Christmas songs in circle time, and will have the opportunity to do some Christmas shopping at our in-class Santa Store next week. It's a magical time of year both at home and at school, and so wonderful to see all of the children's faces light up as we talk about the upcoming holiday.
We are also enjoying a bit of a warmer week, but please still remember to send your kids to school with the appropriate jacket, hat, mittens and other winter wear, such as boots and snow pants.
Thanks as always for reading, and have a great week!
