Book of the Week: The Mitten
When a boy drops his new white mitten in the snow, he goes on without realizing it is missing, in this week's Book of the Week, The Mitten.
One by one, woodland animals find it and crawl in—a curious mole, a rabbit, a fox, and others, each one larger than the last. Finally, a big brown bear is followed in by a tiny brown mouse and what happens next makes for a hilarious climax.
Jan Brett's wonderfully illustrated adaptation of a Ukrainian folktale will have your children checking twice to make sure they haven't left their mitten behind.

Welcome Back & A Look Ahead at 2015
Welcome back everyone! With the huzz and buzz of the holidays behind us, it's time to look ahead at all the great things Pearson has in store for its students for the rest of the school year. Our fun theme days will continue throughout the year - we've already enjoyed Pearson Spirit Day and have Beach Day just around the corner in January.
In February, children will enjoy knocking down pins in the bowling alleys as we embark on a bowling field trip. A second field trip to a destination yet to be determined will happen later in the year ... we're all excited to hear what that will be!
Also in February is Member Registration. If you're already a member, keep some time open on Wednesday, February 18th to register your child for next year.
Coming up in March, is Pearson's Open House & Registration Day for non-members. This is Pearson's big registration event and it will take place on Saturday, March 7th at 9:00 am. We encourage you to spread the word about the great experiences your child has had at Pearson and we hope that others will come and see all the wonderful things the school and its amazing teachers have to offer. Pearson will be hosting a playdate in February at the school, which will provide an opportunity to parents interested in Pearson to come and experience the school with their children before the Open House & Registration. (Please note that the playdate event happens on field trip day - current students are not present while prospective families visit the school).
In April, children will enjoy hopping down the bunny trail like Peter Cottontail at the Easter parties!
The last month of the school year will have some fantastic fun events with the Pearson Family Picnic on Saturday, June 6th and the Graduation Concert Circles on Wednesday, June 17th and Thursday, June 18th.
It's an exciting time ahead and we can't wait to share in all of the fun with the kids!

Book of the Week: The Snowy Day
No book has captured the magic and sense of possibility of the first snowfall better than Ezra Jack Keats’s classic story, The Snowy Day. Universal in its appeal, the story has become a favorite of millions, as it reveals a child's wonder at a new world, and the hope of capturing and keeping that wonder forever.
Did you know that Peter, the boy featured in The Snowy Day, was the protagonist in several of Keats’s other books? Discover more about this beloved children’s author, watch an animated read-aloud of the book, and even play a game based on the book, at Ezra Jack Keats’s official website.

Brrr... A Winter Weather Reminder
to Dress Children for the Cold!
Winter Dress-Up
At last it is winter! I'm going outside!
I'll glide on the ice and I'll slip and I'll slide.
I'll build a big snowman, taller than tall,
And I won't mind the cold, I won't mind it at all!
But first I have snowboots to put on my feet,
And a warm winter coat to trap in the heat.
Next comes a scarf, wrapped twice around,
And a waterproof snowsuit since it's wet on the ground!
After that comes my hat, just like I was told,
And earmuffs of course so my ears don't get cold.
Then comes the mittens to keep my hands warm,
And at last I'm all set for the worst winter storm!
I do love the winter without any doubt,
But there's so much to do before I go out.
- Pamela Chanko
A reminder that now that the cold weather has arrived, please ensure children have proper winter clothing to wear outside: hats, mitts, snowsuits and boots. Children will also need indoor shoes to wear in class each day. Please also remember to label all of the items to help the teachers and kids know what belongs to who! Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

This Week at Pearson: White Day!
White are the clouds fluffy in the sky,
White is the whipped cream on the pie.
White is the snow I like to play in with you,
Marshmallows, toilet paper, the moon, stars and glue.
All the colours of light add up to white,
That colour white is out of sight!

White day is this week at Pearson! On Wednesday & Thursday, children are invited to dress in white to celebrate the day. The colour white aids mental clarity, encourages us to clear clutter or obstacles, evokes purification of thoughts or actions and enables fresh beginnings. What a great way to start off the New Year!
Book of the Week: Snowmen at Night
We’re continuing our snowman theme this week with our Book of the Week, Snowmen at Night by Caralyn Buehner, illustrated by Mark Buehner.
Have you ever built a snowman and discovered the next day that his grin has gotten a little crooked, or his tree-branch arms have moved? Perhaps you've wondered, “What do snowmen do at night? This delightful wintertime tale reveals all.
